A few years ago I wrote "How to dress for court" in Spanish on this site. I noticed that it is a very popular subject that people search for. I did not expect it to be, but come to think of it, I do notice that a lot of people appear in court improperly dressed. Here in Virginia, for one, Judges, Jurors and maybe even the public might tend to judge a person by the way he/she is dressed.
Wearing a suit, if you have one, is very impressionable. The alternative will be a shirt and tie for men and proper attire for women, for example, a not too short skirt, no tank tops and the likes.
When going to appear in court, think of it as a business event, rather than a social one, and you might get a better chance of being judged more favorably.
